World's Greatest Salesperson


I just bought a new home. A nice one. So of course, we needed all new furniture......

That's how I met the World's Greatest Salesman.

We went into Levin's Furniture in Melrose Ohio. We were going to buy 2 end tables. I figured $2-300 tops. HA!

We went into the store on a lazy Monday evening. There were about 15 salespeople talking to each other & only one other couple in the store. I felt like David in a den of Lions.  I asked the lady in the office "Who's the best salesperson here?" She said "That would be Dan". I said "Let me talk to Dan"

Dan was paged. He was the one with the other couple. We waited a few minutes & he came over to us.

In his late 50's and walking like his feet hurt (I'm sure they did) he introduced himself.

In the next two hours we spent just a tad over $24,000. We paid it gladly. We got our money's worth.

The whole time we were there, we heard Dan being paged 6 times. He was the only one paged.

Here's one of the things he did;

We said we wanted to buy 2 end tables.  We had just bought 2 leather chairs & a leather sofa from a competeing store. He didn't just take us over to them. He asked us to describe the kind of furniture we had in our livingroom. I told him about the premium leather furniture we bought, I took it as a chance to brag about our new home. He listened intently for a few minutes.

He then took us to the endtables. We saw one we liked. He said "I wouldn't get that one." I said "No? Why not?"

"Well, we have nicer end tables made out of real maple instead of just a veneer for just a little more. And your new leather sofa should match the tables, don't you think? May I show them to you?" Me- "Lead on"

We loved them. He then said the magic words "With any purchase you get 20% more furniture for free" . So we bought a matching coffee table.

Then he asked "What other rooms do you need to furnish?"

That question led us to spend another $23,000 (on that trip & when we went back to pick up our first few pieces.)
