My wife Cheryl and I own The Sweeper Store in Wooster Ohio. We sell vacuum cleaners. In a town of 17,000 there are 16 places you an buy a vacuum cleaner. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Lowe’s, Best Buy, and SEARS are minutes from his store. We’re surrounded by competitors!

Even so......

Our store has averaged an 81% increase in sales every year for the last 6 years.

Our store is small, by choice. We don’t want to have lots of employees. But our little retail store generates a high six figure income for my wife and me. It sure didn’t start out that way! But now we generate an average return of $12 in profit for every $1 spent in advertising. We get those returns by using rarely used advertising strategies that are proven effective. Years ago I decided I wanted to run a retail store selling vacuum cleaners. So I went to several local retailers to ask who I should learn from. They all had different ideas about how to be successful (none of them were successful themselves, but they sure thought they knew how!)

They all agreed on one thing; Don’t go see this one retailer...he’s evil. He makes unfair profits!

"He takes more than his fair share of business" I heard more than once. 

 I had to meet this man!

I went to meet him. He had a small store in the lower middle income area of Barberton Ohio. He was taking in a million dollars a year, in a depressed economy (Barberton is near Akron which had massive unemployment), with plenty of competitors (they swarmed around his store thinking his location was his secret!), I offered to work at his store for six months, at whatever pay he thought was fair. I just wanted to know how to create wealth in a small retail store.

He promised to show me everything he knew, and he did. 

This man kept records of all his print ads. One day he called me into his office and showed me his "Book Of Secret Knowledge" In it, he had every the amount the ad cost, the sales volume it produced, and the net profit made (or lost).
